The Shantinatha Basti at Halebidu, the ancient Dorasamudra or Dvaravati, the old Hoysala capital was built in north-south orientation. It consists on plan a garbhagriha, ardhamandapa, amahamandapa which in turn is preceded by a pillared porch. The sanctum enshrines a 18' tall image of Shanthinatha. The adhisthana mouldings are almost similar to the adjacent Parsvanatha Basti. The wall is plain save a series of elongated pilasters. It is covered with austere eaves over which rest a simple parapet of brick and lime, obviously a later addition. The pillared porch accommodates granite pillars of square section which carry merloned superstructure. Inside the less ornate Ceiling is supported by a series of lathe-turned pillars.
